They all played a part in launching Kauer Guitars. Founded in 2008 by Doug Kauer, a self-proclaimed jokester and lifelong maker, Kauer Guitars is the embodiment of Doug’s unique vision: combining unconventional design with relentless craftsmanship.
Inspired by his love of bold, less mainstream aesthetics and supported by a community of luthiers, Doug turned his creative spark into a business. Each guitar reflects his meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to constant improvement, and the playful spirit he’s known for. At Kauer Guitars, serious quality meets a not-so-serious attitude, creating instruments that resonate far beyond the strings.

Doug Kauer, always the least serious person in the room, started building guitars when a lifetime of woodworking combined with a love of guitar. Spurred on by the support of other luthiers, Doug found his direction in what appealed to him: less mainstream jet-set design meets a tireless pursuit of improvement.
