“Acoustic tone comes first. Every other decision—materials, finish, electronics—exists to serve it.”
fernando jaén | Luthier
Founded in 2005, Jaén Guitars builds modern archtops that wear tradition on the outside and innovation on the inside. Led by luthier-engineer Fernando Jaén, the workshop obsesses over acoustic response first—light, thin, and precisely braced plates supported by a unique internal side architecture for long-term stability and projection. An oil finish is used to preserve treble clarity, and every electronic component—pickups, piezos, and circuitry—is designed and built in-house to deliver reliable, balanced tone without compromise. The result is a deceptively classic instrument focused on precision, function, and playability—free of gimmicks and tuned for real musical work.

Essential Guitars presents the Guitarras Jaén Siracusa 17" archtop, heard completely unplugged. Raphael Silverman showcases its projection, warmth, and articulation—no amp, no effects, just wood and strings. A natural fit for jazz, chord-melody, and fingerstyle.

“There’s plenty of room for new ideas in terms of function…”

Two convictions guide him: control the entire process by making as much as possible in-house, and remember that the guitar is a tool for the musician—not the destination. That outlook shapes everything from his ultra-responsive, lightly braced tops and oil finish (chosen for its sonic honesty) to electronics he designs and builds himself for reliability and balance. Fernando accepts that meaningful innovation takes time and patience, but he’s content to let the results speak when a player picks up the instrument.
