“A guitar isn’t just an instrument—it’s the whole story of why it exists and the relationship you have with it.”

Ergon Guitars, founded by Portuguese luthier Adriano Sérgio, creates sculptural, ergonomic instruments that transcend utility to become works of art. Built in his Algarve workshop, each guitar is an exploration of form, balance, and personal meaning—often inspired by reclaimed woods and natural materials. For Adriano, an Ergon guitar is more than an object; it’s a relationship between maker, player, and story. His designs flow organically, guided by vision but open to evolution during the build.

“I try to respect myself and respect life. Every guitar I make is a reflection of that.”

adriano sergio | Luthier

  • Initially pursuing a career as a bass player, Adriano spent much of the 1990s performing in original projects and supporting other artists. Over time, his passion shifted from performance to the technical side of music, leading him to become an international guitar technician for renowned touring acts. These years on the road brought him close to legendary instruments and taught him the true needs of working musicians.

In 2005, he founded Guitar Rehab Lisbon, a workshop dedicated to instrument repair, restoration, and construction. It was here that Ergon Guitars was born, inspired by clients seeking instruments that reflected their personal tone and playing comfort. Today, Adriano works from his atelier in Loulé, Algarve, with Guitar Rehab also operating in Figueira da Foz.

Adriano’s major achievements include developing a distinctive sculptural style of guitar-making, earning recognition in the boutique guitar world, and building instruments played by discerning musicians worldwide. His work reflects his commitment to sustainability, using reclaimed woods and natural finishes, and his belief in authenticity as both an artist and a human being.
